The piano drips its notes with the accidental beauty of a tap. The mood deepens and deepens. There’s regret here, but not bitterness. A palaver through quiet space. It was Omar who first had the idea. Let’s all play to the same click track - around 110 bpm - and the same key - F - but let’s take out all the other parts when we play. In other words, let’s play to silence, in an echo chamber, a void, while we think about peace and unity, then see what happens. “We can show how we’re together, free and open, while we express what we feel about love and peace,” he suggested. In other words, an experiment in trust, empathy and synchronicity. “I didn’t know how I felt about it,” Seckou admits. “But what came out was…wow! Music is the universal language.”
